Med Spa Marketing AI Search: Get Recommended in Broward

Open ChatGPT and type “best med spa in Coral Springs for lip filler.” You’ll get three or four names, each with a sentence about who they are and why they made the cut. Now check whether yours is one of them. In the Broward practices we’ve audited this year, it usually isn’t, even when the practice ranks fine in the map pack for the same search.

That is the med spa marketing AI search problem in one sentence. Aesthetic patients research harder than almost any other local customer, and a growing share of them now ask an AI assistant for a shortlist before they ever open Google Maps. Most Broward practices aren’t built to be on it. Here’s why, and what we do about it.

The problem: your patients ask AI for a shortlist, and you’re not on it

The demand isn’t in question. ASPS reported more than 28.5 million minimally invasive procedures in 2024, led by 9.88 million neuromodulator injections and 5.33 million hyaluronic acid filler treatments. Neuromodulators grew 4% year over year. AmSpa’s 2024 State of the Industry report counts more than 11,000 med spas in the U.S., and says close to 90% of patients are women.

What changed is where the research starts. Pew Research found 49% of U.S. adults now use AI chatbots, up from 33% in 2024, and 42% of them use chatbots to search for information. One in five use them for health-related guidance. Among adults under 50, the core aesthetic demographic, ChatGPT use sits at 57%.

Local recommendations specifically have jumped. BrightLocal’s 2026 Local Consumer Review Survey found the share of consumers using ChatGPT or similar tools for local business recommendations rose from 6% to 45% in a single year, making AI the third most used source after Google and Facebook. The same survey found 74% want reviews written in the last three months.

And here’s the part that stings. SOCi’s 2026 Local Visibility Index, covering nearly 350,000 locations, found AI visibility is three to 30 times harder to achieve than a map-pack ranking. Only 1.2% of locations were recommended by ChatGPT, against 35.9% that appeared in Google’s local three-pack. AI assistants “prioritize confidence and risk reduction over breadth.” If the assistant can’t verify you, it skips you.

Why it happens: four things AI can’t verify about most Broward med spas

We recently ran an audit sweep of Broward wellness practices. One Plantation physical-therapy practice had a noindex tag on its homepage. That’s extreme, but most med spa sites have a quieter version of the same disease:

    • Inconsistent listings. The Google Business Profile says one suite number, Yelp says another, the website footer has the old phone number from the previous location. SOCi found business profile data was only about 68% accurate on ChatGPT and Perplexity. An assistant that sees three versions of you trusts none of them.
    • No MedicalBusiness or HealthAndBeautyBusiness schema. Schema.org defines MedicalBusiness as “a particular physical or virtual business of an organization for medical purposes,” with subtypes like Dermatology and PlasticSurgery; HealthAndBeautyBusiness covers DaySpa and BeautySalon. Google’s LocalBusiness documentation asks you to use the most specific subtype possible and says plainly, “the more properties you provide, the higher quality the result.” Most med spa sites have none, or a generic Organization block the theme installed.
    • Generic treatment pages. “Our expert team offers Botox in a luxurious setting.” No named practitioner, no license type, no supervising physician, no pricing range, no answer to any question a patient would actually ask. AI assistants quote pages that answer questions. They can’t quote a mood.
    • Thin, generic reviews. Forty five-star reviews that all say “love this place” tell an assistant nothing about who does what. SOCi found AI-recommended locations averaged 4.3 stars on ChatGPT, but the sentiment and specificity of the text matter as much as the number.
    • There’s a fifth factor that most agencies skip because it isn’t a checkbox. Ahrefs’ research on AI visibility found branded web mentions had the strongest correlation with AI visibility (0.664), well ahead of backlinks, and brands in the top quarter for mentions got roughly ten times the AI visibility of everyone else. A med spa nobody outside its own website talks about is, to an AI assistant, a rumor.

How Phoenix fixes it: the wellness-vertical playbook

Meg and I owned and ran our own wellness center for four years before we started this studio. We know what a half-empty Tuesday schedule feels like, and which marketing promises are nonsense. That’s why our med spa marketing program runs a fixed sequence, in this order, because each step depends on the one before it.

      1. Entity lock

One name, one phone number, one address format, one set of hours, everywhere. We did this to ourselves recently: rebuilt our own Google Business Profile as a service-area listing, replaced the toll-free number with a local 786 number, and matched the website footer to it. For a med spa we do the same across Google, Apple, Bing, Yelp, Healthgrades, RealSelf and the 40 to 60 directories that actually matter. Not 200. Fifty that agree beats two hundred that argue.

      2. Schema that says what you are

We mark the practice up as MedicalBusiness or HealthAndBeautyBusiness depending on how it’s licensed and what it offers, with the DaySpa or MedicalClinic subtype where it fits. Every practitioner gets a Person entity tied to the practice. Every treatment page gets Service and FAQPage markup. Our own site launched with zero schema, and we’re fixing that in public, so you’ll see the same code on our pages that we’d put on yours. This is the technical core of our SEO and AI GEO service.

      3. Answer-shaped treatment pages with named practitioners

Each treatment page is rebuilt around the questions patients ask on RealSelf and in consult rooms: who will treat me, what are their credentials, who supervises, what product do you use, what does a consultation involve, what does it cost. The page names the injector, the license, the medical director and the consultation process. No outcome promises, no before-and-afters without consent, nothing a medical board would object to. Just clear, specific, quotable answers.

      4. Treatment-specific review asks

Instead of “please leave us a review,” the post-visit text asks about the specific treatment and the specific practitioner by name. Reviews that say “Maria did my lip filler consult and explained the product she uses” give an AI assistant something to work with. We also make sure the practice answers reviews the same day, because BrightLocal found 19% of consumers now expect that, up from 6%.

      5. A few real mentions

Not link farms. A quote in a South Florida lifestyle piece, a Chamber directory listing, a sponsor line at a Coral Springs community event, a local podcast segment. Five real mentions beat five hundred spammy links, and they’re the only kind we’ll build.

Honest timelines: AI-answer changes can show within weeks of the entity and schema work. Map-pack movement in Plantation or Coral Springs usually takes 60 to 90 days. A competitive category like injectables in Fort Lauderdale is a four-to-six month project.

All of it is included in one predictable retainer: $850 to start, $650 a month on a 12-month plan, with a blog post and two social posts every week. We’re new, we’re pre-revenue, and we don’t publish client counts or ROI multiples because we don’t have any yet. What we have is a playbook we’ve lived, and a willingness to show our work.

      Frequently asked questions

What credentials do patients look for when choosing a med spa?

On RealSelf, the most common version of the question is some form of “I have no idea who to go to or what credentials to look for.” Physicians answering it point to board certification, the specialty of the supervising physician, years of injecting experience and before-and-after photos. If those facts aren’t on your website in plain text, neither patients nor AI assistants can find them.

Should a med spa website name its injectors and medical director?

Yes. Patients on RealSelf are told to ask how many years a provider has been injecting full time and who supervises them. A treatment page that says “our expert team” answers none of that. Name the practitioner, list the license type and the supervising physician, and give each provider a page. That is what AI assistants quote when they explain why they picked a practice.

Does schema markup make ChatGPT recommend my med spa?

Not by itself, and anyone who says otherwise is selling you something. Schema is verification, not persuasion. It tells Google and AI crawlers exactly what kind of business you are, where you are and who runs it, so they can match your site to your listings and reviews. The recommendation comes from ratings, consistency and mentions. Schema just removes the doubt that keeps you off the list.

How long before AI search changes show for a med spa?

Be realistic. AI answers can shift within weeks after entity and schema fixes because the assistant re-reads your pages on its own schedule. Map-pack movement usually takes 60 to 90 days. Reviews and mentions compound over months, not days. If an agency promises page one in 90 days for a Fort Lauderdale med spa, ask them to put that in writing and watch how fast the subject changes.

Do I need 200 citations for my med spa to show up in AI answers?

No. Our position is that 40 to 60 real, consistent citations is where rank lift plateaus, and SOCi’s data shows AI assistants care about accuracy more than volume. Two hundred listings with three different phone numbers is worse than fifty that match. Our citation audit and cleanup is $249 one-time, and the Core-50 build is $449. That is the entire menu, on purpose.

  • AI Search Visibility for Local Businesses: 5 Fixes That Work

AI Search Visibility for Local Businesses: 5 Fixes That Work

A Plantation med spa owner asked me last week to type “best med spa near Plantation FL” into ChatGPT. Three competitors came back, with phone numbers and a summary of what each one does well. She wasn’t on the list. She ranks in the map pack for that same search. Same business, same reviews, same website. Invisible in the AI answer.

That gap is the whole story of AI search visibility for local businesses. Google’s map pack ranks listings. ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google’s AI Overviews do something different: they verify an entity and then decide whether they trust it enough to say your name. If your business can’t be verified cleanly, you don’t get mentioned, no matter how good the work is.

Here’s why it happens, what the research actually says, and how we fix it, including what we’re still fixing on our own site.

The problem: the AI answer is becoming the first (and often last) click

This isn’t a future problem. In a study of 900 U.S. adults’ browsing data, Pew Research found that 18% of Google searches produced an AI summary in March 2025, and users who saw one clicked a traditional result in just 8% of visits, versus 15% when there was no summary. Only 1% of visits clicked a link inside the summary itself. If you’re not named in the answer, you lost that searcher.

For local queries the exposure is larger. Search Engine Journal reported Whitespark data showing AI Overviews on 68% of local searches, rising to 92% for informational queries like “how long does an eye exam take near me” and 97% for hybrid ones like “average cost of dental implants in Phoenix”. The same piece found 77% of AI Overview citations come from off-page sources, not the business’s own site.

And consumers are already asking the chatbots directly. BrightLocal’s local SEO statistics roundup puts it at 45% of consumers using ChatGPT or other generative AI tools for local business recommendations (Local Consumer Review Survey, 2026), and cites SOCi’s finding that fewer than half of businesses leading Google’s local results also appear in AI local recommendations. That’s the Plantation med spa in one sentence.

Why it happens: AI assistants verify entities, they don’t rank pages

When a Broward business is missing from AI answers, it’s almost never one thing. It’s five small things that each break verification.

    1. Your name, address and phone don’t agree with each other

A model cross-checks your Google Business Profile against your website footer, Yelp, Facebook, Apple Maps and a few dozen directories. Old toll-free number on one, a residential address on another, “LLC” here and not there. Every mismatch lowers confidence. The same BrightLocal roundup cites SOCi data that only 68% of business contact information shown by ChatGPT and Perplexity matches the Google Business Profile. Inconsistent inputs produce wrong outputs, and wrong outputs get you skipped or, worse, misquoted.

    2. No structured data telling machines what you are

Google’s LocalBusiness structured data documentation asks for only two required properties, name and address, then recommends telephone, opening hours, geo coordinates, price range and URL, and says plainly that the more properties you provide, the higher quality the result. Most local sites in Broward have none of it. The page says “we do Botox in Sunrise” to a human, and says nothing at all to a parser.

    3. A thin Google Business Profile

No services listed, no categories beyond the primary, no Q&A, no posts, a handful of reviews with no owner replies. The GBP is the single most-referenced record for local entities. If it’s thin, there’s nothing to verify.

    4. Nobody else mentions you

This is the part owners underestimate. Search Engine Land’s guide on AI and local search notes that AI systems pull from Google Business Profiles, review platforms like Yelp and BBB, and third-party sites like Reddit and news outlets, and that AI is more likely to strongly recommend a brand when it’s mentioned on many cited source pages. A business with a good website and zero third-party mentions looks unverified to a model.

    5. Answer-less pages and technical blockers

The Princeton and Georgia Tech researchers who coined the term GEO tested nine content changes against a benchmark of real queries. Their Generative Engine Optimization paper (KDD 2024) reports that adding quotations lifted visibility in generative answers by about 41%, adding statistics by about 31%, and citing sources by about 28%, while keyword stuffing made pages perform worse than the baseline. Pages full of “premier, trusted, top-rated” and empty of facts give a model nothing to lift.

Then there are the blockers. Google’s own documentation on AI Overviews and AI Mode says there are no additional requirements or special markup to appear, but a page must be indexed and eligible to show with a snippet, and noindex, nosnippet and robots.txt directives limit what appears in AI features. In a recent audit sweep of Broward wellness practices we found a Plantation physical-therapy practice with a noindex tag on its homepage. No amount of content fixes that.

How Phoenix addresses it: the AI-GEO service

Our SEO & AI GEO service is built around the verification problem, not around “AI content.” The work runs in this order because each step feeds the next.

    1. Entity lock. One canonical name, phone, service area and description, then propagated everywhere: GBP, website footer, Apple Business Connect, Bing Places, the core directories. We did this on our own listing recently, switching to a service-area profile with the address hidden, replacing a toll-free number with a local 786 number, and matching the footer to it. We stop at 40 to 60 real citations. “200 citations” is filler and we won’t sell it.
    2. LocalBusiness and Service schema. JSON-LD on the homepage and every service and location page, following Google’s property list: name, address or service area, telephone, hours, geo, price range, URL, plus Service and FAQPage markup where it applies.
    3. Answer-shaped content. Each service page gets a direct definition, real numbers (price ranges, timelines, what’s included), and quotable statements, which is what the GEO paper found actually moves visibility. Location pages for Plantation and Sunrise follow the same pattern.
    4. Citations and third-party mentions. Reviews with owner replies, correct listings on the review platforms models actually cite, and earned mentions on local sites. This is slower and it’s the part that separates “verified” from “exists.”
    5. llms.txt and crawl access. We add an llms.txt file and make sure AI crawlers aren’t blocked in robots.txt. We’re honest about the first one: Ahrefs analyzed 137,210 domains and found 97% of llms.txt files got zero traffic in May 2026, calling the file “largely decoration” for AI visibility. It costs nothing and hurts nothing, so we include it. Anyone charging you for it as a fix is selling the wrong thing.

Timelines, because you’ll ask: entity and schema fixes can show up in AI answers within weeks, since models re-read sources often. Map-pack movement typically takes 60 to 90 days. Competitive categories like med spa in Fort Lauderdale run 4 to 6 months.

Our own site had zero schema at launch. We’re fixing it in public.

When phoenixgrowthcollective.com launched it had no structured data, no reviews program and thin citations. We audited ourselves the same way we audit clients, and we failed the same checks. The schema is going in page by page, the citation build is underway, and the reviews program starts with the first clients. We publish progress because a marketing company that hides its own scorecard isn’t one you should trust with yours.

    Frequently asked questions

How can I get my business listed in Google AI Overviews?

There’s no submission form. Google says there are no special requirements beyond being indexed and eligible for a snippet. In practice, businesses that appear have a complete Google Business Profile, consistent contact details across the web, structured data on their site, and pages that answer the specific question being asked. Fix those in that order and re-check the query every few weeks.

Does llms.txt actually help my business show up in ChatGPT?

Not on current evidence. Ahrefs found 97% of llms.txt files received zero traffic, and a Hacker News thread from a developer reviewing server logs found no requests from major AI companies’ crawlers. It’s harmless and takes minutes, so we add it, but treat it as housekeeping, not a strategy. Your Google Business Profile and citations do far more.

Why does ChatGPT show the wrong phone number or address for my business?

Because it read an old listing somewhere. Models cross-reference many sources, and if a directory still carries your previous number or a former address, that data can win. BrightLocal cites SOCi research that only 68% of contact details on ChatGPT and Perplexity match the Google Business Profile. Cleaning up the core 40 to 60 citations fixes most of these cases.

Do I need to write “AI content” to get cited?

No, and it can backfire. The GEO research found keyword stuffing lowered visibility while adding statistics, quotations and cited sources raised it. Write the page a knowledgeable staff member would write: what the service is, what it costs, how long it takes, who it’s for. Specific beats polished every time.

How long before I see my business in AI answers?

Entity and schema fixes can change AI answers within weeks. Map-pack ranking typically moves in 60 to 90 days, and competitive Broward categories take 4 to 6 months. Anyone promising a fixed number of days is guessing. We’d rather tell you the range and show you the checkpoints.
